ADAMA announced its non-fumigant nematicide received federal registration from the Environmental Protection Agency. According to the manufacturer, the active ingredient in Nimitz, makes it easier to apply but required a new chemical classification. The nematicide has no re-entry intervals, does not require certified applicator training and only minimal personal protective equipment is needed for the applicator. “Nimitz is the nematicide that growers have been waiting for,” said Herb Young ADAMA brand manager. “It is highly effective in controlling plant-parasitic nematodes. Enartis Vinquiry announced its WS yeast is now available as an active dry yeast. WS is a strain isolated from late harvest Zinfandel from Williams-Selyem Winery in Healdsurg, Calif., and considered one of the strongest strains from California. The unique characteristics of the yeast, which make it ideal for high Brix juice and restarting stuck or sluggish fermentations, made it challenging to produce in a dry form. After extensive research and trials, Enartis microbiologists in Italy were able to produce the yeast in a dry form to make storage and use simpler. Details: enartisvinquiry.com

Grapevine leafroll associated virus 3 (GLaV-3) is, arguably, the No. 1 most economically important virus in grapevine production and is designated as an exclusion pest in most certification programs. However, growers are often frustrated to find this virus in their vineyards and in certified nursery stocks. Since GLRaV-3 is known to be genetically highly variable, we suspect that certain strains may have escaped detection during certification.
