The new Carbo 520 Optical by Anton Paar is an inline carbon dioxide monitor designed to be installed directly inline and in constant contact with the sample. According to the manufacturer, the unit measures CO2 with the spectroscopic approach requiring only the passing of infrared light through a crystal. The Truett-Hurst wine company in Healdsburg, Calif., has launched a wine brand packaged in a new, paper bottle. Truett-Hurst is the first U.S. winery to use the paper bottle that was developed by Green Bottle, which is based in the United Kingdom. The bottle has an outer shell made of recycled cardboard covering a plastic liner. Truett Hurst is using the bottle for its new brand Paper Boy that will feature wines from Mendocino County and the Paso Robles AVA. Valley Pipe & Supply in Fresno, Calif., is now offering “The Cube” by French winery equipment supplier Socma. According to Socma product information, the Cube is a gentle destemmer that separates whole berries from stems with little damage to the grapes. The machine employs “flexible destemming fingers,” which form a vertical passage for grape bunches. The vibratory fingers detach berries from stems that are then separated out via a sorting conveyor.
