Cork supplier Amorim and glass manufacturer O-I unveiled their new Helix closure at the Vinexpo tradeshow in Bordeaux, France. According to a statement by the two suppliers, the new closure is a result of four years of collaborative research. The new “twist-to-open” closure “combines an ergonomically-designed stopper made from cork and a glass bottle with an internal thread finish in the neck.” Consumers can use the closure to reseal the bottle after they’ve opened it. Amorim and O-I claim the closure and bottles can run on existing bottling lines “with only a minor adjustment.” Details: helixconcept.com

Ecommerce and POS system developer eWinery Solutions released its new MoJoe POS mobile application for direct-to-consumer sales. The app is the first product developed since eWinery acquired Napa Valley POS. Kubota Tractor Corp. announced its new Grand L60 Series of tractors, which the company says offers a higher level of comfort along with improved productivity for compact tractors. The six models are available with a range of five engines and three transmission options. Oenobrands’ announced that some strains of Anchor brand yeast will be available in smaller 250-gram packages. The yeast had previously only been available in 1 kg, or by special order 5 kg, packs. Wilden unveiled its new Pro-Flo Shift air distribution system for air-operated double-diaphragm pumps. The company describes the new system as a “significant breakthrough in energy efficiency” and that it can achieve up to a 60% savings in air consumption and costs 50% less than an electronically actuated air distribution system. Wine Father LLC, based in Chicago, announced it will soon release its new Geo-Cap capsule that contains a radio-frequency identification (RFID) chip that will gather information about the environment, location and commercial life of the bottle it seals. The capsule is designed to give wineries and wine buyers confidence about the conditions a wine experienced during shipment or storage. The new company specializes in the purchase, servicing and resale of high-quality used winery and brewery production equipment. According to Revolution Equipment Sales' president, Ed Barr, “Wineries and breweries were telling us they needed a reliable partner to help them with their high-quality production equipment that no longer fit their operation. They wanted to recoup any value in the equipment so they could invest it elsewhere. Since I was also being asked if I knew of sources for reliable used equipment, it dawned on me there was a business opportunity and knew I could help.”

The new app is built into the native eWinery Solutions software and fully integrated with Napa Valley POS, so orders can be started on MoJoe and completed either on MoJoe or at the NVPOS station. Unlike other wine industry mobile apps currently available, which operate like ecommerce websites on a mobile device, MoJoe was designed specifically around tasting room workflows to optimize the customer experience in managing transactional and CRM requirements.
