LangeTwins winery wins sustainability award
Fort Worth, Texas—LangeTwins Winery and Vineyards in Lodi, Calif., won top honors in the Botanical Research Institute of Texas' International Award of Excellence in Sustainable Winegrowing competition. Five other wineries, four from Europe and one from Texas, also won awards in the competition.
LangeTwins received a platinum medal for initiating several programs to bolster the sustainability of its business from improving wildlife habitat, water conservation programs, renewable energy and integrated pest management. The competition requires any winery entering to submit a detailed review of their sustainability programs and a bottle of wine for the tasting element of the competition. LangeTwins submitted a 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon.
“LangeTwins multigenerational philosophy to sustainable winegrowing shows its commitment and a passion for getting things right in all facets of its wine organization,” said Will McClatchey, BRIT’s vice president of research in a statement released by the institute. “Their devotion to sustainability enhances their land and their community and produces an outstanding estate Cabernet.”
Red Caboose Winery in Meridian, Texas won a bronze medal in the contest.
