Vinitech
New ideas in bottling and packaging were a big part of the Bordeaux show.

Vinitech, the biennial wine technology bash in Bordeaux, saw attendance drop from its last show, but the number of exhibitors went up. The organizers reported 38,362 visitors roaming among 850 exhibits Nov. 28-30, 2006.

Vinitech
One display made a shortcut from vine to glass.
"It was a platform for far-reaching political analysis and for dialogue between trade associations and professionals on the issues and interests concerning every stage of the wine process," stated Marc Lecoq, exhibition president. "Vinitech remains the leading B2B event for the wine industry."

American vintners and suppliers exploring the vast expo grounds found a much bigger universe of vineyard and winery equipment and services than is available in any Western Hemisphere location. Wines & Vines identified fewer than 100 exhibitors that do business in North America, but encountered a number of American suppliers attending to check out the potential for starting or increasing sales in European and other international markets.

Attendance from the host country, France, dropped from the previous event, which had been four days instead of three. Countries with the next most attendees were Spain, Italy, Portugal and Germany.
Vinitech
Always popular, barrels and handling equipment.

Vinitech gave its top scientific award to Laffort Oenolgie of Bordeaux for Mannostab, a new tartaric stabilization method that significantly inhibits precipitation and prevents the formation of crystals in bottles.

The next Vinitech is scheduled for Dec. 2-4, 2008, in Bordeaux. For more information, go to bordeaux-expo.com/vinitech2006.
