More than 250 people attended the second-annual Wine Industry Technology Symposium (WITS), held July 18 in Napa, Calif. The symposium explored the use of information technology and services for the wine industry, from the vineyard to the winery to retail shelves.

Hot topics at this year's symposium reflected current wine industry issues--such as consolidation, federal compliance and direct sales--along with tech-specific topics like data collection and integration.

The conference featured more than 50 presenters, including keynote speaker Enzo Micali, CIO of 1-800-flowers.com; Mike Adams, chief information officer for Glazers; Ann Dozier, head of business development for Coca-Cola Customer Business Solutions; Jason Eckenroth, founder and CEO of Six88 Solutions; Brian Baker, Kendall-Jackson's VP of consumer relationship marketing and J. Smoke Wallin, chairman and CEO of WITS presenting sponsor eSkye Solutions, Inc.

The symposium ended with a supplier showcase featuring vendors of information technology and services.
