New alcohol-reduction facility in Napa County
American Canyon, Calif.—VA Filtration announced its new alcohol-reduction facility is up and running. General manager Bryan Tudhope said the system is a vacuum distillation unit that features a deep vacuum operation, indirect water heating a small hold-up volume. The company is also offering wineries a mobile service in which it will create a “low-color wine fraction” with VA Filtration’s membrane technology and ship that fraction to the distillation facility for treatment. Clients would then blend the low-alcohol wine back to reduce the alcohol level of a particular wine. “The volume to ship will depend on how far the customer would like to lower his alcohol on any given lot,” Tudhope said.
