Kajani appointed winemaker at Bouchaine

Napa, Calif.—After 13 years as winemaker and general manager of Bouchaine Vineyards in Carneros, Michael Richmond, 69, announced his retirement. Winery owners Gerret and Tatiana Copeland picked Chris Kajani to replace Richmond as winemaker and general manager. The change in winemaker is the first of several for the winery that was founded in 1981. According to a statement released by the winery, the Copelands plan to build a new hospitality center and tasting room as well as renovate the winery. Kajani, 44, was the winemaker at nearby Saintsbury winery since 2013 and previously worked at Pahlmeyer Winery. “Carneros has been my home for almost nine years, and holds a special place in my heart,” Kajani said. "This estate has such a rich history, and I look forward to continuing to build on the legacy of Mike Richmond and executing the Copelands’ vision for the future.”
