Sonoma growers vote to retain commission

Santa Rosa, Calif.—Sonoma County's wine grape growers voted to continue self-funding the Sonoma County Winegrape Commission (Sonoma County Winegrowers) for the next five years. According to the California Department of Food and Agriculture election results, of the 1,298 eligible voters, 364 voted in the referendum and 321, or 88%, voted to in favor of continuing the assessment.

"This vote marks the highest approval of the commission since its inception in 2006 and validates that Sonoma County growers are in favor of the direction that the board and staff have taken to build awareness for Sonoma County grape growers," said Kevin Barr, owner of Redwood Empire Vineyard Management and chairman of the commission board in a statement released by the group.
