Santa Rosa, Calif.—Michael Michaud is the new consulting winemaker and Gianni Abate is the new associate winemaker for Chalone Estate Vineyard, which Foley Family Wines purchased earlier this year. Michaud was the winemaker at Chalone from 1979 to 1997 and worked with founder Dick Graff. Michaud also owns a vineyard in the small Chalone AVA. Gianni was most recently with Morgan Winery in Salinas, Calif., where he worked for more than a decade. "Having both Gianni and Michael will ensure that we reach our goal of maximizing the quality of wines coming from this incredible property,” said Bill Foley, owner and founder of Foley Family Wines.
