Bronco first U.S. wine company to use Helix

Modesto, Calif.—Bronco Wine Company will be the first U.S. wine company to use the new Helix closure developed by glass supplier O-I and cork producer Amorim. The Helix is a “twist-to-open” cork stopper that fits a specially designed bottle. O-I and Amorim developed the closure to combine the benefits of cork and glass with the ease of a twist off closure that can also be used to reseal the bottle. The Helix debuted in 2013 at Vinexpo in Bordeaux, France and just now is poised to appear on retail shelves as the closure for Bronco’s Red Truck brand.

Amorim and O-I note that the Helix provides the “satisfying pop” as the cork is released, which the companies say is still an intrinsic part of the wine experience for many consumers. “Wine consumers in America have a growing understanding of the role quality cork and quality wine play in delivering their wine in a sustainable but yet premium format,” Bronco CEO Fred Franzia said in a statement. “We are proud at Bronco to be the first winery in America to deliver this incredible innovation.”
