Hi-res printing for corks
Cork producer M.A. Silva announced it now offers what it’s calling “revolutionary cork laser-printing technology,” which can provide high-resolution image printing for natural corks. The company has added a D-CLP “Decork” laser-printer system within its Diamond Program. The new laser creates 3D-style imaging within the full 360º cork body spectrum. In addition to graphics, the laser can also mark each cork with a number for traceability. Details: masilva.com.

Diam debuts new closure at Unified
Calling it the “world’s most advanced cork closure to last more than 30 years,” Diam unveiled its Diam 30 closure for the North American market at the recent Unified Wine & Grape Symposium in Sacramento, Calif. The closure is designed for wines made for extended bottle aging and features one of the lowest oxygen-permeability rates on the market. Details: diam-closures.com.

FT System debuts oxygen sensor
FT System’s award-winning L.Sensor.C02 unit made its North American debut at the recent Unified Wine & Grape Symposium in Sacramento, Calif. The sensor won an innovation award at the 2013 SIMEI-ENOVITIS exposition in Italy. According to FT System, the unit is the first of its kind to use laser spectroscopy technology in the gaseous phase to provide a non-destructive measurement of oxygen and carbon dioxide in glass and plastic containers. New cross-flow design by Andritz
Andritz Separation revealed its new cross-flow filtration units featuring the company’s new “dynamic” filter system. The new system employs overlapping rotating disks that create differential speeds and “generate a cross flow without requiring a pump to circulate the slurry and without any circulation line at all.” Details: andritz.com.

New ranges of gas generators
Atlas Copco Compressors released three new ranges of oxygen and nitrogen generators. The company added a new membrane nitrogen generator as well as a pressure swing adsorption nitrogen generator, which produces 99.999% pure nitrogen at flows of up to 1,200 standard cubic feet per minute. A new line of pressure swing adsorption oxygen generators use zeolite pellets that act as the adsorbent agent producing 90%-95% pure oxygen at flows of up to 7,000 standard cubic feet per hour. Rehrig Pacific launches keg-rental service
Rehrig Pacific Co., a manufacturer of reusable transport packaging containers for beer, wine, spirits and other products, announced the launch of its new keg-recycling program for wine and beer. The Pubkeg program enables wineries and breweries to ship full kegs while Rehrig handles tracking the kegs for return and recycling. The 1/6 barrel PET kegs are designed to fit the U.S. Sankey valve systems and weigh 49 pounds when full. Details: pubkeg.com.

Pump-over irrigator by Vinnovation
Winemaking tool designer Vinnovation released its new Lotus pump-over irrigator. The firm’s designers used molds made with 3D printers to produce shapes that previously could not be fabricated with standard tools. The Lotus is lightweight, allows an unobstructed flow of free-run wine and is easily adjustable to fit any tank or cap size. The unit is being manufactured and sold through York Machine Works in St. Helena, Calif. Details: vinnovationllc.com.
