Santa Rosa, Calif.—Vintage Wine Estates announced its acquisition of Canopy Management Wine Co. in Napa, Calif., and its portfolio of brands, which includes Middle Sister, PromisQous, Purple Cowboy, Wine Sisterhood, Deep Purple, Girl & Dragon and Lady La Femme. The deal follows Vintage Wine Estates’ purchase of Napa Valley-based Clos Pegase Winery as well as Viansa Winery, located on the Sonoma County side of the Carneros AVA, in 2013. Terry Wheatley and Brian Wurtz founded Canopy in 2008. Wheatly will join Vintage Wine Estates as executive vice president of sales and marketing, and Wurtz will oversee the transition of wine supply, distributors and exporters during the initial phase of consolidation. Nancy Walker has been appointed head winemaker of the Canopy portfolio as part of VWE.
