Virginia announces Governor's Cup winners, other honors

Richmond, Calif.—The Virginia Wineries Association announced the winners of the Governor’s Cup Virginia Wine Competition as well as the state’s Wine Person of the Year award and Lifetime Achievement Award. Ninety-nine Virginia wines won gold medals in the contest that was held over a four-week period during late January and early February. The gold medalists from this year's Governor's Cup were selected from 442 entries of both red and white wines, from 100 different Virginia wineries. Frank Britt who was the original publisher of the online magazine and email newsletter Official Virginia Wine Lover and who died in May 2017 was posthumously named the Virginia Wine Person of the Year. Lucie Morton, an author, viticulturist, ampelographer and vineyard consultant, won the Virginia Lifetime Achievement Award.
