Wine aged in tequila barrels

Napa, Calif.,–Cooper & Thief Cellarmasters introduced a Sauvignon Blanc aged in used tequila barrels. The 2016 Cooper & Thief Sauvignon Blanc (SRP: $29.99) is aged for three months in ex-Casa Noble Añejo tequila barrels.

According to the press release announcing the new wine, cellarmaster Jeff Kasavan drew inspiration from the success of his first red blend aged in bourbon barrels to explore how spirits barrel aging could enrich the flavors of a white wine.

The former new French oak barrels are sourced from fine tequila distiller Casa Noble where they small batch age their Añejo expression for two years, a year more than most Añejo tequilas.
