Parramon adds individual cork screening

Napa, Calif.—Catalonian cork supplier Parramon is now conducting individual screening on all of the corks it sells in North American and is guaranteeing those corks will be free of TCA contamination. “We are the first and only cork company to incorporate the TCA testing of every cork we produce as a standard procedure, not an added option for an added fee,” company owner Francesc Parramon said in the statement announcing the new testing system.

The supplier is calling its new system “Protocol Zero.” The system involves a unique electronic detection device that Parramon claims is accurate to less than 0.5 ng/L.

Because it runs its production line slower than other cork suppliers, Parramon says it can conduct continuous in-line screening rather than batch-by-batch analysis. Corks that pass the screening device continue on in the production process and are then packaged in sealed bags for shipping.

Founded in 1956 in Girona, 62 miles northeast of Barcelona, Spain, Parramon sells to more than 800 customers in 13 countries and its U.S. office is in Napa, Calif.
