Layer Cake, other brands sold to Vintage

Santa Rosa, Calif.—Vintage Wine Estates is acquiring the Layer Cake, Cherry Pie and If You See Kay wine brands from vintner Jayson Woodbridge who launched all three brands that have grown into a portfolio of more than 450,000 cases per year. Layer Cake debuted in 2004 and was comprised of nine varietals priced between $10 and $15 per bottle. Woodbridge will serve as a consultant for both winemaking and public relations after the deal is expected to close Jan. 2. Demeter Group acted as exclusive financial advisor to Woodbridge’s company One True Vine in the sale. "These brands are an extraordinary addition to the Wine Estates portfolio," said Pat Roney, president and CEO of Vintage Wine Estates in the press release announcing the acquisition. "They have struck a powerful chord with consumers who are drawn to the whimsical and provocative branding and stay for the remarkable quality."

Deutsch Family Wine & Spirits will handle sales and marketing for Layer Cake. Vintage Wine Estates' internal fine wine sales and marketing team will handle Cherry Pie and If You See Kay.
