February Flash Offers Make a Leap
Thanks to the return of Last Call Wines and a little loving from Invino on Feb. 14, the total number of flash offers for domestic wines in February increased 17% over the previous year. Last Call Wines took a short hiatus to ensure it was fully compliant to ship wine but is now back to being a leading website in the flash channel.

Wines Vines Analytics' winery database includes the average retail price of all 9,091 wineries in North America. Of the 6,326 wines offered in the past 12 months, 62% were from wineries with an average bottle price of $20 to $49. The $20 to $29 segment accounted for the single largest share at 28% of flash offers and accounts for 33% of all wineries. The $11 to $19 price segment has the largest share of all wineries at 34% but accounted for a small share of flash offers.

The monthly total of offers is often influenced to a large extent by Invino and the website offered more than 100 wines on Valentine’s Day helping to ensure the past month's offers rose higher than last year. Invino’s 174 offers for the entire month accounted for 34% of all offers. Lot 18 made just 13 offers in February and most of those were for wines the company produced itself.

Flash Methodology

Wines Vines Analytics’ research team captures flash offer details for hundreds of domestic wine offers each week. The team monitors offers presented through 17 flash reseller sites every day of the year. Each offer is reviewed and tied to the source winery, and the specific details are recorded in a database of flash offers.

When flash websites hold special events with a high number of offers, Wines Vines Analytics monitors the site closely, often capturing a new offer every few minutes. At the close of each month, the offers are reviewed for accuracy, and the findings are reported by Wines & Vines’ editorial staff for the current month along with time-series comparisons of pricing, winery size and wine types.
