Iowa wine worth $420 million

Des Moines, Iowa—The economic impact of the Iowa wine and grape industry grew by 80% from 2004 to 2012 to reach nearly $420 million, according to a study commissioned by Iowa State University. Compiled by the firm Frank, Rimmerman + Co., the report found the state’s wine industry paid $83 million in wages, accounted for 2,678 jobs and generated $68 million in federal and state tax revenues in 2012. The report also pegged the value of the state’s 2012 production of nearly 300,000 gallons of wine at $15 million. Details: extension.iastate.edu
