Vin65 adds hardware to mobile POS system
Vin65’s mobile point-of-sale (POS) system for iPhones and iPads can now work with cash drawers, receipt printers and barcode scanners. The improved POS system is designed to enable staff to take payments anywhere in a tasting room or at an event, run transactions faster and at one central location, and offers customers the option of printed or email receipts. Details:

New fully automated analyzer
Randox Food Diagnostics announced it had validated its fully automated RX Monaco analyzer for use in the wine industry. The unit provides results for a range of analysis including malic acid, glucose, fructose and ethanol from a single sample. Results are generated every few seconds. Details:

Concept Cover keeps bins cool
Concept Cover is a reflective shield that covers grape bins to maintain the temperature of the fruit at harvest for hours. Stephen Collum, who developed the product, said in a news release that the covers received a good trial when a truck hauling grapes broke down on its way from California’s Sierra Nevada foothills to the coast. Bins with the new covers maintained temperatures at 55º-58ºF, while temperatures in the uncovered bins reached the 90ºs, he stated. Details:

Biodegradable and compostable shipping material
Vinpak announced it had reached an exclusive agreement with KTM Industries to supply it with Green Cell Foam, a 100% biodegradable and compostable packaging material for wooden box and wine bottle shippers. According to Vinpak, the material is made from cornstarch and can withstand multiple impacts from shipping as well as thermal insulation. Details:

New Fog Force repels birds from vineyards
Rejex-it Bird Control released its new Fog Force product to deter birds from eating ripening grapes. The non-lethal repellant is designed to immediately stop birds from foraging in a vineyard by irritating their eyes, sinuses and mouths. According to the manufacturer, a typical treatment requires 4-8 ounces of the chemical per acre of vines and leaves no residue on grapes. The product requires the use of a thermal fog generator. Details:

Redesigned nitrogen generators
Parker Hannifin Corp. announced it had redesigned its pressure swing adsorption (PSA) nitrogen generators to provide flow rates 50% to 180% higher than previous models. The company’s dual-bed nitrogen generators produce 99.999% pure, compressed nitrogen at dew points to -58ºF from a supply of compressed air. The unit is designed to product nitrogen continuously without requiring someone to operate it. Details:

Glutathione analysis by ETS

ETS Laboratories is offering a new analysis for berries, juice and wine to determine levels of the powerful antioxidant glutathione. Low levels of the naturally occurring tri-peptide in grapes lead to lower levels in the juice, and the finished wine will have poor aging potential. Glutathione levels can fluctuate during fermentation and be affected by sulfur dioxide, phenolic compounds, ascorbic acid and copper. Details:

Sentry 6140 sprayer tip monitor
TeeJet Technologies released its new Sentry 6140 tip flow monitor, which employs a small, turbine-style flow meter to monitor tip flow rates and issue alerts if any flow deviates from the average rate from the spraying rig tips. The unit received a silver AE50 new product award from the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers.

New 30-liter KeyKeg
Lightweight Containers announced it had developed a new 30-liter KeyKeg package that employs both its “Double Wall” and “Bag-in-Ball” technology to serve and preserve beverages. The new KeyKeg 30 can “withstand even higher internal pressures than its predecessor and is even more resistant to damage,” reports the manufacturer. The PET keg can be used for wine, sparkling wine and beer. Details:

Carbon dioxide-monitoring system
Analox Sensor Technology unveiled its new Ax60 carbon dioxide-monitoring system, which features a high-decibel alarm, visual alarm and a digital display that shows current CO2 levels. The unit also can be expanded, if needed. Details:

Wine bottle and glass in one package
Steelhead Vineyards of Sonoma, Calif., and W1NE for One announced the release of a new container that combines a 187ml bottle and glass in one package. The plastic glass is attached to a screwcap bottle closure. Consumers open the bottle and then pour the wine into the glass. Details:

New option for shipping small bottles
Spirited Shipper announced it added a new shipping package for 375ml bottles as well as beer bottles. The company already offers cardboard shippers for between one and 12 750ml bottles as well as one to six magnum-sized bottles. Details:
