Ball's PET bottles win packaging awards
Ball Corp., Broomfield, Colo., received two Sustainable Packaging Leadership Awards for the 750ml PET plastic wine bottles it supplied to Artisan Wine Company of British Columbia. The Packaging Association of Canada presented Ball with the Canadian Packaging Magazine Best-of-Show Eco-Choice award, as well as a bronze in the international branded package category. Bruni sponsors packaging competition
Italian wine bottle producer Bruni Glass sponsors the innovative Progetto Millennio, in which students from seven European design schools compete to create original and unconventional bottles. Bruni showcases top entries at the biennial SIMEI trade show in Milan, and visitors are encouraged to vote for their favorites. Some of the winning designs are produced commercially by Bruni. Koch adds filtration for Constellation
Koch Membrane Systems Inc. (KMS) will provide a three State-in-Series crossflow microfiltration system to Constellation Wines'

Ramondin adds to sales staff
Ramondin USA, Napa Valley supplier of tin wine capsules, hired Douglas Ryan to service accounts in Napa, Sonoma, Sierra Foothills, Central Valley, Monterey, Santa Cruz Mountains and Southern California. Custom crush allies with glass supplier
Paso Robles Wine Services, provider of winemaking services on California's Central Coast, has partnered with Global Discoveries Glass, which manufactures wine bottles in Asia, to provide a full service winemaking service including distribution.

Gripple honored by Queen
Gripple Ltd., British manufacturer of trellis wire joiners, received the Queen's Award for Enterprise honoring the growth of its international business, which increased by 53% between 2003 and 2006.

Swiegers joins Hansen in Australia
Wine researcher Hentie Swiegers joined Danish biotech company Chr. Hansen as manager of its Australian operations. Previously, Swiegers was a senior research scientist at the Australian Wine Research Institute.

Correction and clarification
The supplier chart on page 32 and 34 of our April 2008 issue incorrectly listed the name of an oak alternative brand: Canton Cooperage's product is XtraOak, not EXTRAOAK, as published.
