Presentations made by 17 researchers at UC Davis’ Current Wine and Winegrape Research symposium in February are now available for online viewing. Visit iv.ucdavis.edu, choose Videotaped Semiars and Events and go to Wine and Winegrape Research 2010.

Kenzo opens this month
Kenzo Estate planned to open its new winery and tasting room May 1. Kenzo Tsujimoto’s property occupies 4,000 acres on Napa County’s Mt. George, with 100 acres planted to Bordeaux varieties. Heidi Barrett is winemaker; David Abreu, master vineyard manager and Thomas Keller, chef. Current production is 500 cases.

Sowalsky is Clos Pegase winemaker

Richard Sowalsky was appointed winemaker at 40,000-case Clos Pegase, Calistoga. Previously he was at Tetra. He’ll be working with consultants Paul Hobbs and Tom Prentice.

Changes at Jackson

Jackson Family Wines has moved some winemaking for its 50,000-case Matanzas Creek brand to Stonestreet, its sister winery in Healdsburg, while the Matanzas Creek facility undergoes major updates. The tasting room remains open. Jackson Family Wines Nursery, a 17-year-old grapevine nursery near Madera, will close June 30 due to reduced demand.

RAP adds virtual tasting

The Rosé Avengers & Producers (RAP) holds its annual PINK OUT! Tasting May 11 in San Francisco, with the addition of an online virtual tasting where consumers can share Tweets and pictures of their favorite rosé wines at taste-live.com/pinkout. Pre-registration at TasteLive.com is required.
