New law benefits nonprofits
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed into law legislation to relax restrictions on wine donations for charity fundraisers. Authored by Assemblymember Noreen Evans, D-Santa Rosa, AB 1964 triples the number of temporary alcohol licenses a nonprofit group can obtain each year for wine dinner and wine auction fundraisers, allowing them temporarily to store wine donations. Napa growers announce new board
Bruce Phillips of Vine Hill Ranch was elected president of the Napa Valley Grapegrowers (NVG), succeeding Randy Snowden. David Beckstoffer, Beckstoffer Vineyards, was elected vice president; Sam Turner, Vista Vine Vineyard Management, is treasurer. Patty Saldivar, Pine Ridge Vineyards & Winery, was elected to the board, and Peter Richmond, Silverado Farming Co., was re-elected. Other 2008-09 NVG directors include Stan Boyd, Nancy Duckhorn, Mike Fisher, Bill Hanna, Larry Hyde, Steve Moulds, Julie Nord, Jon Ruel and Jim Verhey.

C. Donatiello Winery opens
C. Donatiello Winery held a grand opening June 21. The new facility in Healdsburg, amid a 14.5-acre estate farmed organically since 1998, focuses on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, with an organic aroma garden designed to flatter those varietals. Flora Springs to unveil tasting room
Flora Springs Winery & Vineyards, St. Helena, will open its new tasting room beside Napa's Highway 29 on Aug. 8. Designed by Joel Miroglio of Miroglio Architecture + Design, the new venue celebrates the winery's 30th anniversary as a family operation.

Trinity Oaks vows to plant trees
Trinity Oaks Vineyard, St. Helena, part of the Trinchero Family Estates portfolio, has pledged to plant a tree for every bottle of its wine that is sold during the next year. The One Bottle, One Tree campaign began July 1, a collaboration with the nonprofit group Trees for the Future, which promotes sustainable agriforestry. Trinchero anticipates the promotion will contribute more than 1 million trees to restore tree cover in tropical Africa, Asia and Latin America. For details, visit trinityoaks.com.
