Jarvis launches personalized wines
The program at Jarvis Winery, Napa, will allow winery fans to be involved in creating personalized Jarvis wines by selecting from wines in barrel to blend and bottle. Various options are offered, including bottling and labeling; Full barrel prices start at $25,000. For details, visit jarviswines.com.

Miller named farmer of the year   
Stephen Miller, who owns the iconic Bien Nacido Vineyards with his family, was honored as farmer of the year at the Santa Barbara County Fair in August. Miller also oversees operations at Solomon Hills and French Camp Vineyards, Central Coast Wine Services and Paso Robles Wine Services. Miller established Bien Nacido in 1973 with his late brother, Bob.

Seeing green in California 
The Green Winegrowing Handbook published by Paul Dolan Vineyards and Parducci Wine Cellars, Mendocino County, can now be downloaded for free at pauldolanwine.com. Parducci received the 2009 Governor’s Environmental and Economic Leadership Award, the state’s highest environmental honor.

Korbel Champagne Cellars, Guerneville, released its first California Brut made from organically grown grapes; suggested retail price: $15.99. Cameron Hughes Wine, San Francisco, chose an ECO-series glass bottle for its Lot 150 Meritage, distributed at Sam’s Club. The 16-ounce glass bottle reduces raw materials use by 16%. Gundlach Bundschu, Sonoma, became one of only 12 wineries to earn Sonoma County’s Green Business Certification.

Concannon rededicates landmark 
Concannon Vineyard, Livermore, reopened its renovated tasting room, California registered historic landmark No. 641 following a decade-long, $30-million revitalization of the 125-year-old vineyard and winery.

Hobbs is GM of Epoch in Paso Robles
Matt Hobbs was appointed general manager at Epoch Estate Wines, Paso Robles. Previously, he was with The Vines of Mendoza in Argentina, and before that, served as VP/GM at Paul Hobbs Winery, Sonoma County.

Ohmart joins SureHarvest    
Longtime Wines & Vines columnist Dr. Cliff Ohmart has joined the Soquel, Calif.-based software supplier as vice president of professional services. Ohmart was sustainable winegrowing director at the Lodi Winegrape Commission for the past 13 years, and was senior author of the groundbreaking Lodi Winegrower’s Workbook, model for the Wine Institute and California Association of Winegrape Growers’ Sustainable Winegrowing Program. Ohmart will continue to contribute his bi-monthly Vineyard View column in Wines & Vines. SureHarvest recently was awarded a $630,000 USDA grant to pilot test emerging metrics of sustainability performance in specialty crop production.
