Bennett Lane promotes Hermann 
Bennett Lane Winery, Calistoga, elevated Grant Hermann to the position of winemaker. He joined the 10,000-case winery as cellar master in 2005.

Raffaele is Keyways winemaker 

David Raffaele was appointed winemaker at 5,000-case Keyways Winery, Temecula. Previously, he was with Maurice Car’rie and Van Roekel Vineyard and Wineries.

Spring Mountain, CCVT earn IPM honors

Spring Mountain Vineyard, St. Helena, was one of eight businesses to receive an IPM Innovator Award from the California Department of Pesticide Regulation for its successful integrated pest management program. The 225-acre vineyard was opened to University of California, Berkeley, researchers for vine mealybug and bee studies; to UC Santa Cruz for bluebird studies and the Napa County Resource and Conservation District for erosion control and soil studies. Schug marks 30 years

Carneros pioneer Schug Carneros Estate Winery will celebrate its 30th anniversary by releasing its first-ever estate grown Pinot Noir for the 2010 holiday season, and breaking ground on a solar array that will produce 100% of the 35,000-case winery’s electricity.

Chattan promoted at Geyser Peak 

Ondine Chattan was named head winemaker at 225,000-case Geyser Peak Winery, Healdsburg. She’s been with the winery, one of the Ascentia Wine Estates, for 10 years, and was lead winemaker for Ascentia’s XYZin brand, produced at Geyser Peak.

New Peter Paul team releases first wines

Vintner Peter Paul, who sold his Grove Street Winery in Healdsburg, developed a new portfolio with Daniel Moore and Jeff Morgan, M Squared Wine Consultants and erstwhile Wines & Vines columnists. The first releases from Russian River Valley vineyards include a Chardonnay and two Pinot Noirs. Details: peterpaulwines.com.

Cameron Hughes is growing   

Cameron Hughes Wine, San Francisco-based international wine negociant, hired Sam Spencer as director of winegrowing and Darlyne Miller as direct-to-consumer manager. Spencer was a founder of San Francisco’s Hayes and Vine Wine Bar and of Spencer Roloson winery; Miller has handled direct marketing at Arrowood, Freemark Abbey and Constellation Wines U.S. Details: chwine.com.

Napa resident and native Spanish speaker Josefina K. Adriance, M.A., published Spanish for the Wine Industry, a spiral-bound, 140-page learning tool for basic Spanish used in the vineyard, winery and  human resources; price is $29.95. Barrel program in Temecula

Temecula Valley Winery Management is a Southern California custom crush that enables budding brands or consumers to craft their own wines from a barrel inventory including nine red varietals.
