San Diego Chargers kick off a Cabernet

The San Diego Chargers teamed up with winemaker Anthony Bell of 15,000-case Bell Wine Cellars, Yountville, to release a limited edition Cabernet Sauvignon for the Chargers’ 50-year anniversary. Chargers Legacy 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon, retailing at $24.99, is available online, at stores in the San Diego area and during home games at Qualcomm Stadium. Visit: chargers.com/wine.

Robledo becomes primary owner of Black Coyote Wines
Black Coyote Wines, the 900-case Napa producer, announced Vanessa Robledo as its majority owner and CEO. Robledo was named president of Black Coyote Wines in 2008. During her tenure, the winery increased its market presence and more than doubled its production and wine sales. Visit: blackcoyotewines.com.

Fiji Water acquires Landmark Vineyards
Fiji Water, the Los Angeles-based bottled water importer, has purchased 25,000-case Landmark Vineyards in Kenwood. Winemaking and hospitality operations are planned to continue in the present location. Winemaker Greg Stach will carry on management of the Landmark program. Demeter Group, San Francisco-based investment bank, advised on the transaction on behalf of Landmark Vineyards. Visit: landmarkwine.com.

New board helms Zinfandel Advocates & Producers
Zinfandel Advocates & Producers, Rough & Ready, has announced its new board of directors for 2011-13. The new president is Robert Biale of Robert Biale Vineyards, Napa; vice president is Mark Vernon of Ridge Vineyards, Cupertino; secretary is Chris Leamy of Terra d’Oro Winery, Sierra Foothills; treasurer is John Hanhauser of Virgil’s Vineyard, Napa. Sonoma Wine Co. selects Loopstra

The 2 million-case Sonoma Wine Co., Graton, named Scott Loopstra director of operations of its American Canyon facility. Loopstra’s appointment follows a company-wide expansion and reorganization initiative. Loopstra’s wine career spans 27 years—he was most recently director of operations at Vintage Wine Estates for 15,000-case Grove Street Winery. Visit: sonomawineco.com.

Ren Acquisition Inc. acquires Renwood
Ren Acquisition Inc., a privately owned company, has purchased 110,000-case Renwood Winery in Plymouth. Dave Crippen will remain in place as head winemaker with Carlos Pulenta, an Argentinean wine industry veteran, acting as the primary wine consultant. Visit: renwood.com.
